Memorandum To: ACICS Member Institutions
From: Dr. Albert Gray, Executive Director and CEO
Topic: Recognition by The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
Date: March 5, 2009
Nursing programs within institutions accredited by ACICS are now eligible to seek accreditation with National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), effective immediately. The new policy will be posted shortly on the NLNAC website.
NLNAC advises that programs interested in accreditation should proceed with application to the Candidacy process. All information is available at www.nlnac.org.
The formal recognition of ACICS by NLNAC culminates discussions regarding standards, processes and practices. NLNAC accredits nearly 1,200 nursing programs throughout the U.S. including more than 800 at the practical, diploma and associate degree levels.
ACICS encourages member institutions to attain specialized accreditation of professional and technical programs for which programmatic accreditation is available. Specialized accreditation encourages a higher level of rigor and quality assurance for member institutions, adding value and utility to the credentials earned by students. NLNAC specialized accreditation will elevate the stature and quality of nursing programs offered by ACICS schools. ACICS strongly encourages pursuit of this higher level of programmatic quality assurance.
